Is it Okay to Have Oral Sex on Your Period?
Believe it or
not, the subject surrounding period is still a taboo in the times we live in.
People still freak out at the thought of a woman bleeding out of her vagina.
And period sex? Oh my God, the horror and disgust it elicits! I wouldn't be
surprised by the existence of people who are completely grossed out by the
thought of going down on someone who's menstruating.
If you’re wondering
whether oral sex during your period is okay and safe, then yes – it is okay. We
answer some of the most common queries in order for you to get in on the
crimson tide.
Is it safe?
It is totally
safe as long as neither person has any STDs
(sexually transmitted diseases). However, according to experts, there are
certain STDs that are more likely to be transmitted while bleeding, for
example, HPV, HIV and syphilis.
Is it clean?
If by clean, you
mean ‘disease-free’, then yes, it is hygienic. But if you consider ‘hygiene’ as
a ‘cleanliness’ factor, you should know that there is blood involved and it’s
going to smell like blood and taste like metal (why? Because of presence of
iron in period blood, duh!). So, if you don’t want to look like you’re coming
back from a murder scene, you could try doing in days when there’s low blood
flow.
Should you go
for it?
Most women are sexually
aroused when on their period and love to get frisky. Oral sex
during period is a very personal choice and if you think that it would be too
icky (or horrifying) for your taste, then you would not enjoy it. But to answer
the question, we would say that it entirely depends on you as a couple. You
have to talk about how you feel about it. If you’re in a stable, monogamous
relationship and know that you’re both disease-free, then you should definitely
try it out.
Here are a
few things to keep in mind when you’re up for action during periods:
1.
Some women find period sex
(including oral sex) more pleasurable because it’s when they are highly
sensitive down there.
2.
Period blood is a great
lubricant, so it’s great for people who don’t have as much arousal
lubrication as they want.
3.
Can you get pregnant? Well, a
sperm can live in the uterus for up to 4-5 days. So, if you’re not trying to
get pregnant, it’s important to use protection
while having sex during periods.
4.
If you’re worried about the
mess you’re going to make, then ‘shower
sex’ is the best bet for you. Otherwise, you can lay a towel over sheets and keep
a few wet wipes handy.
5.
Your positions will get
limited. Due to gravity, being on top, when you’re menstruating, won’t be a
good idea. So the ideal position would be missionary, with a pillow elevating
& supporting the back. This will minimize the mess and maximize pleasure!
